You're never too old to be pregnant as long as you're blonde and skinny

"LONDON, England (Reuters) -- A 63-year-old British hospital consultant is set to become one of the world's oldest mothers after undergoing fertility treatment, the Italian doctor who treated her said on Thursday."

Why is she an ideal candidate for in-vitro fertilization, even at her age?

"She came here with her husband, the couple love each other, she is very slim, blonde and in perfect condition, she fits all the criteria for maternity."

Well. Good thing she isn't brunette, packing a handful of extra pounds, and prone to occasional arguments with her partner.

Keep that in mind, everyone. Blond(e), slim, absolutely fit, and married are the criteria for being a good parent deserving of in-vitro fertilization.

I almost wrote, "One wonders why she and her husband didn't adopt," but I don't wonder. They want a mini-me, another little perfect life accessory that they made themselves. They don't care that they may be in good health now, but as the years tick by and the child becomes older, more energetic, needs them more, they'll be on the decline. Today's healthy 63-year-old could be next decade's 70something stroke victim in a wheelchair, and the kid will only be in elementary or middle school.

It would be sad to come home from school and know that one (or both) of your parents won't be there because they're in a nursing home.

Oh, well. It's hard to argue with someone about their own selfish wishes. Only hard knocks and tough life experiences might convince that person that s/he should have made another choice, and by then, it's too late.

That woman, like most parents, always have to learn things involving kids the hard way.
