I let far too many opportunities for childfree commentary slip past, but I couldn't not comment on this story. If you don't know the story by now, Google it. Daughter has screaming tantrum for 15 minutes and won't get into her seat and buckle up, AirTran flight crew finally insists daughter and parents leave so flight can take off on time and not fuck with the lives of a hundred-plus additional passengers.
THANK YOU, AIRTRAN. One child shouldn't rule (or ruin) an entire fucking flight.
The family can bitch all they want. Too bad. They were compensated for their tickets. They were the ones causing the problem and the holdup in the first place. They're the ones who deserve to be inconvenienced. AirTran wisely put those hundred-odd more people who were ready to travel at a higher priority than two people who couldn't get a third to calm down enough to start the flight safely.
Sorry, you DON'T get a free pass to hold up a flight because you can't or won't make your child behave, and your child does NOT get a free pass to hold up a flight because something is agitating her so badly she won't settle down and buckle up.
The people who want to bitch at AirTran have undoubtedly found the airline's Contact Us link by now, so I'll post it here for those who want to show their appreciation to the airline. Please don't be an idiot; if you think the kid should have been sucked into a jet engine on her way out of the plane, make that comment here or in your own blog or somewhere that it's appropriate, but keep your comments to AirTran sane and polite. Make your comments of support something that any customer-service rep could forward to the president of the company without being embarrassed, something gate agents and flight crew can show others and say, "We did right by the flying, paying public."

I'm a frequent flier myself and there is nothing more asinine than a child being allowed to act a complete and total ass upon an aircraft.
Parents need to get a grip. They seem to believe that everyone should have to endure the despicable behavior of their children when they choose to travel, go to restaurants, go shopping, etc. They think WE should have to deal with that bullshit!
I'm sick of the sense of entitlement and their lack of concern about the havoc their rugrats wreak upon us all.
