Conception as sin, and "I'd rather be aborted"

I rarely link to other blogs, but this post from the Don't Conceive blog gave me food for thought.

Conceiving a child is a sin, he says. I didn't read the entire post; that requires more attention span than I'm generally capable of these days. However, it did make me realize that because every single one of us dies, we are sentencing every single person we bring into this world to death. Life IS a death sentence. It's how you spend on Death Row that makes a difference, I suppose. But there we are, each and every one of us, born onto Death Row and most of us will never know what our method of execution will be. We all know who our executioners are, though: Our parents, who created us.

One could have a lot of fun with pro-lifers on that subject. "Every baby you think you save from abortion is being sentenced to death, possibly a more wretched and painful death than that baby would endure as a fetus being aborted. Torturers! EXECUTIONERS!" It's a bit extreme, but if you could see your future, and your choices were:

  • Be aborted as a clump of cells
  • Die a lingering, or painful, or terrifying, or all three, type of death, possibly after a terrifying and painful life
Which would you choose?

I'd rather be aborted.

Conception as a greater sin than abortion? Yes, I think I can see it that way, if I'm inclined to see either as a sin.

I've read that blog before and I have to say...some of it is very thought provoking. I think abortion is one of the most humane things a woman can do to an unwanted baby...
